Collen Atwood (Costume Designer for SWATH) Shares On-Set Fashion Secrets

“Kristen’s Snow White is a totally different kind of character. She’s much less princess-y and more of a bad-ass girl. Her costume is leather with clamps and different stitching on it, so it’s quite different.”

Kristen Loved the Wardrobe

“When I first showed Kristen the costumes, she was really into it. She loved the armor and all the other bits that she has. She’s really not obsessed with clothes at this point in her career. She’s young and free from that obsession, and in her previous work she hasn’t worn those presentational costumes, so it’s kind of new for her. She’s still having fun with it.”

Kristen Asked to Take One Piece Home

“Snow White’s under-armor jacket is a really a cute little light piece. Kristen was like, ‘Can I have this?’”

Kristen Really Becomes Snow White

“Kristen’s got a great presence as an actor. If you put a costume on somebody that really knows how to wear it, it becomes really strong!”

There’s Not a Closet Big Enough to Hold Everything

“Charlize [Theron] has about 15 different variations of costumes and Kristen has about five or six. Chris basically has three looks and Sam has two. The guys have less, but more stages [from clean to battle worn]. Probably by the time we’re done we’ve made over 2,000 costumes with all the multiples and extras in the film.”

Don’t Worry, This Snow White Isn’t Only Dressed for Battle

“You can’t wear armor the whole movie unless you’re Joan of Arc or something. It’s a good mixture. She has a couple of girly dresses, plus her wedding dress that’s made with leather. There’s a really beautiful skirt that goes with it and a skeletal collar that’s detachable.”
