In addition to her successes as an actress and her respectable reputation, Reese Witherspoon is the envy of millions of Twilighters after working alongside superstar heartthrob Robert Pattinson in not one, but two films — not to mention the fact that she’s kissed him too.

When MTV News caught up with Witherspoon recently as part of “MTV First: This Means War,” we asked her the first thing that comes to mind when she thinks of her “Water for Elephants” and “Vanity Fair” co-star.

“I would say [he is] the hardest-working person I’ve ever worked with, honestly,” she said. “[He's] professional, hard-working, so appreciative, more grateful than I’ve ever seen anyone for where he is in life.”

Given the fact that Witherspoon has been in the business for decades and experienced every facet of being famous, we asked her to weigh in on the current fan frenzy that surrounds Pattinson wherever he goes and how it may or may not affect a person.

“I’ve never experienced what he has — going to premieres and there’s just millions of people waiting for him to touch them,” she said. “I think it must be strange, but I don’t even know how to process what he deals with and Kristen [Stewart] deals with. I don’t know.”

The Oscar-winning actress said Pattinson handles his fame very well, despite the sometimes-chaotic circumstances. “[He's]a really cool guy,” she said.

Here’s an article about Janice Aria from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus talking about Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon in Water For Elephants.

On the topic of circus elephants, “it’s hard to match me for enthusiasm,” said Janice Aria, Director of Animal Stewardship for Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Having worked with pachyderms since the early 70′s, when Aria “ran away and joined the circus,” the 61-year-old is passionate about the floppy-eared beasts. Elephants have captured the public’s imagination from the Victorian era, when P.T. Barnum bought Jumbo from the London Zoo, to just this Spring, when an elephant named Tai embodied Rosie, one of the main characters in the movie “Water for Elephants,” starring Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon.

A college student in the seventies, Aria and her late husband left their lives in New York State and hitched their future to the circus stars. “I joined the elephant act as a clown, and my husband joined the bear act,” she said. “I thought because I had ridden horses I would know how to ride an elephant; I was wrong. I learned to ride like Robert Pattinson, by trial and error.”

Aria gained a glimpse into the filming process for “Water for Elephants” because she is longtime friends with Tai’s trainers and owners.”Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon (lead characters in the film) had been so lovely to work with, and so impressed with the elephant,” she said.”You don’t know how big they are unless you are sitting behind their ears — there’s no neck there,” she said. “It’s nothing like riding a horse. You’re not the master, their master is on the ground, giving directions.”

Reese was interviewed by the U.K.’s Daily Mail during her WFE London press junket. In this excerpt, she talks about her character in WFE, Marlena, about meeting Kristen, and about how her and Rob first met (nearly 8 years ago on the Vanity Fair set).

Robert Pattinson, 25 this week, plays Jacob, who is studying to be a vet, but has to drop out of university when his parents die, and joins the circus instead. There is an instant chemistry between Marlena and Jacob as they bond over their love for the elephant. But the relationship seems doomed, because Marlena is trapped in an abusive marriage to the volatile ringmaster (played superbly by Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar last year for Inglourious Basterds).

Their romance develops against the odds – ‘Jacob kind of melts her heart,’ says Reese – and Marlena inevitably ends up in bed with him. ‘I’ve got to say it was a little disappointing,’ she laughs.

‘Rob had quite possibly the most hideous cold of any co-star I’ve ever had to do a love scene with. I was spraying the sanitiser trying not to get sick myself! We had a brother/sister kind of relationship,’ she adds.

‘I know his girlfriend (Twilight’s Kristen Stewart) really well, and he’s met my husband.’ (Reese married Hollywood agent Jim Toth in March.) It wasn’t the first time the pair had worked together, if you count Robert’s fleeting turn as Reese’s son in Vanity Fair. ‘I was 27 and he was 17,’ she smiles.

‘We didn’t really know each other very well.’ And the scene ended up on the cutting-room floor.
